Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy dating back to Ancient Egypt, India and China.
Grounded in the theory that different points, usually on the feet and hands, correspond with different parts of the body, reflexology is about helping the client, through massage of their feet or hands, to restore balance and help the body to help itself.
I work holistically with my clients, looking at other factors that may contribute to their health profile. This means supporting them during pregnancy, during long-term illnesses, when trying to conceive or dealing with stressful life changes such as moving house, dealing with children starting school or leaving home. Or even coming back home.
Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is uniquely tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account a variety of factors that might be affecting your wellbeing. Some people find it works for them – some don’t. The best way to find out is to try it once and see if it can be of benefit to you.
Reflexology aims to help the body to restore its balance naturally. Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced and you will feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects of your life, such as dealing with stress, a bereavement, difficult relationships at home or work will improve too. This happens on an individual basis, and at a varying pace.
Stress comes at us in different forms, and affects us differently from obvious inability to sleep, to panic attacks, inability to concentrate and apply ourselves to often the most basic of tasks. My aim is to help provide an hour where the concentration is on you alone, allowing time to take a deep breath as I work on your feet. By the end of it you may be asleep. Afterwards you may feel relaxed or energised.
What is important for us all is that we take responsibility for our own wellbeing. Reflexology may be one of the ways to to do just that.
